Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

“My best guy friend is crazy about me but I don't feel that way at all.”
(Continued)

Hey Terra,

He is still sad about it but I will send him that other note, and like the worst part is this, you know how us girls are, right? We see some cute guy and we keep looking at him and see if he makes eye contact back or just tells a friend about it... Well like when I'm around my guy friend and this hot guy goes by, I really want to tell him that I like him and that I think he's hot but I can't cuz I will hurt my guy friend's feelings. And like now when I'm with my other guy friends and this guy friend (who likes me) sees me hugging them, he gets kinda jealous. I can tell by the look on his face and like I've always been a flirty chick, always!! But I just want him to understand. I'll write him the letter tho.

Caught

Dear Caught,

You say you "want him to understand"... Well, guess what? You can't "make" someone understand your point of view if they don't choose to. I do know about girls. And I know that girls want everyone to think that they're "nice"... And that often girls will do and say things that are not what they really feel just to keep other people smiling and happy. That's not the way to live your life. Be kind. Sure! Be considerate and sensitive. Of course! Be compassionate. Absolutely! But don't believe for a minute that it's your job to make everyone you know happy. It's not your job.

So... Maybe the best way to handle this friendship is to be sensitive to what you say about other guys when you're with your friend.

Does that make sense?

In friendship,

Terra
